    Here is a vintage German-made copy of an Alexander 103 double french horn. This instrument is in good condition and plays very well. The valves move very well with good compression, and the slides all move of course. Based on the design of the fittings and the braces on this instrument, this horn looks to be an older horn made by Hans Hoyer. This is just my conjecture, it is impossible to be certain.  It is certainly a nice and well-made instrument.
    As for the aesthetic condition of the horn, there are small dings and pings as well as light pitting, etching, and somewhat significant scratching throughout. There is one small reinforcing patch on the inner wrap and a soldery repair on the Bb side first slide. The bell has been converted to screw bell using an Alexander compatible ring, and the flare is a heavyweight replacement. The original leadpipe has been replaced with a Conn 8D leadpipe.
    This instrument has been professionally cleaned in our shop and repaired to full playability. This horn is finished in pure polished brass, and fingerprints should be wiped off after use if the player wishes for the horn to stay as shiny as it is now; if they are not wiped off then the horn will develop a lovely patina. This instrument comes with a clamshell style screw-bell case and a mouthpiece in good condition for play-testing purposes.
    How the horn plays: Full, warm sound with a dark, smooth tone. The F and Bb side timbre and intonation match well. All registers of the horn speak well and play with good fluidity. Due to the placement of the trigger in this design and the age of the horn, it is probably easier for most players to hold this horn “on-the-leg”.
