    Description

    Presented is an antique, Irish sterling silver serving or stuffing spoon made by Richard Sawyer of Dublin around the turn of the 19th century. This piece was made between 1794-1809. The handle is in a traditional Fiddle pattern form and the top has an old, original monogram of the initials ET or EJ.
    The Dublin sterling silver Hibernia, crowned harp and date letter hallmarks were all used in a square punch, as seen on the back of this handle, between 1794 and 1809. So even though we cannot make out the date letter, because all three hallmarks are in a square punch together, the piece is certainly from this time period. There is also a maker’s mark for Richard Sawyer, who worked during the very early 19th century.
    This piece is in excellent overall condition. A dent may have been taken out of the bowl, as the bowl has a high finish. There is minor wear commensurate with light use but there are no dents, no breaks, no splits, no monogram removals and no other repairs.
    The spoon measures 9 inches long and weighs 62.7 grams or 2.2 ounces.
